Case/Carton Handling Systems

ConTecH designed Case / Carton handling systems are custom designed and include many individual components that utilize the latest belt technology from Intralox, as well as cost effective alternative conveyor belt types.

Case/Carton Handling Systems
ARB intraloxActivated Roller Belt™ Technology
A Revolutionary Conveyor Technology Platform for package handling, delivering:
  • Simplicity
  • Reliability
  • Flexibility
Series 400 Angled Roller™ Belt
  • Uses angled rollers embedded within the belt to generate lateral product movement as the belt moves forward.
  • Rollers extend above and below belt.
  • Available in four angles, with rollers mounted at…0°, 30°, 45°, or 60° …to belt travel.
  • May incorporate combinations different angles and directions of rollers across the width of the belt.
  • Smooth-surface rollers or high friction rubberized rollers may be specified to match a specific application.
45° & 60° Angled Roller™ Belt
  • Rubber-coated rollers spaced 2" apart.
  • Patented carryway has ability to control when and where lateral product movement will occur.
  • Provides more rapid transverse product movement which enables:
  • Smaller footprint.
  • Higher throughput.
Patented Engagement Roller Carryway
  • A rack of engagement rollers located below the belt and within the conveyor frame are the mechanism used to drive the angle rollers and divert product.
  • Friction between the rubber-coated angle rollers and the engagement rollers forces the angled belt rollers to rotate as the belt travels forward.
  • AND… at a location within the conveyor, the racks of engagement rollers can be raised and lowered between supports to initiate lateral product movement when needed.

Activated Roller™ Belt Applications

90ยบ Transfer/Curve

90º Transfer/Curve

Ideal solution for 90 degree merge transfers; significantly reduces jams and maintenance costs versus saw-tooth designs. Reliable, jam-free alternative to 90 degree curves.
Benefits:
  • Increases productivity by eliminating line jams.
  • Lowers cost of maintenance and repair with easy to replace modular plastic components.
  • Ensures proper case orientation with positive justification after the turn.
  • Maintain orientation in direction of travel.
  • Change orientation in the direction of travel.

Sorting/Diverting

Sorting/Diverting

Effectively sorts a broader range of product types than other sorter technologies.  Single or dual-sided sorting design lends flexibility for using plant space.

Benefits:
Divert zones can also be more tightly spaced than other sorter technologies to reduce footprint.
  • Gentle conveyance from sorter to take-away conveyor reduces the risk of product damage.
  • Accurately sorts up to 100 packages per minute.
  • Costs less to acquire and operate than alternative sorter technologies.
  • Modular design allows for easy, low cost, expansion.

Registration

Registration

The use of pop up flights in the registration belt impedes the relative motion between the product and the belt. The Flights are staggered from one lane to another this enables a (X)  consistent pitch and accurate spacing to be achieved between products. Resulting in continuous motion in-feed with continuous pitch.
Benefits:
  • Simple design requires virtually zero maintenance
  • Same constant motion as servo’s, but without the expense & complication of servo drives.
  • Increased throughput due to continuous motion & consistent product positioning.
  • Reduces footprint by eliminating need for accumulation required for metering or gapping of packages.

Perpetual Merge

Perpetual Merge

The Perpetual Merge allows you to combine package flow from two or more lines into one continuously, without using accumulation or controls. Ideal when packages are similar in length; typically no more than 50% difference between the smallest and largest package.
Benefits:
Versus traditional plow merges:
  • Increased throughput due to continuous motion and consistent product merging.
  • Requires a significantly smaller footprint because no accumulation conveyor is required to merge.
  • Simple to operate and maintain - no controls required.
Versus servo combiners:
  • Same constant motion but eliminates maintenance cost and complication of servos.

Merging

Merging

Simple, small footprint design offers a low maintenance option that eliminates the need for a plow rail or powered vertical belt.

Benefits:
  • Packages move at a sharper angle, requiring a significantly smaller footprint than roller conveyor-based merge systems.
  • Eliminates risk of carton or label damage from contact with guard rail/plow.
  • Increases productivity by eliminating line jams.
  • Possible to merge without controls.
  • Lowers cost of maintenance and repair due to simple design and fewer mechanical components.

Aligning

Aligning

Ideal solution for orienting and aligning packages prior to print and apply label applicators, scanners, cameras, sorters and other equipment.

Benefits:
  • Positively justifies cases against conveyor guide rail in a very short footprint with 100% accuracy,  eliminating jams and misreads.
  • Installs in a significantly smaller footprint than most other alignment devices.
  • Vs Skewed Rollers - Typically half the distance or less required for same side movement.
  • Positively positions products even after a stop/start.

Case Turning

Case Turning

Ideal solution for 90 degree merge transfers; significantly reduces jams and maintenance costs versus saw-tooth designs. Reliable, jam-free alternative to 90 degree curves.
Benefits:
  • Ensures a complete case turn even if case conveyor is stopped and re-started in the middle of a cycle.
  • Eliminates downtime caused by jams and skewed cases along conveyor that can save hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • Aligns cases uniformly along the side rail after the turner.

Singulating/Depalletizing

Singulating/Depalletizing

Small footprint solution capable of singulating/descrambling a wide range of package sizes and styles, ensuring steady case flow with proper orientation.

Benefits:
  • Eliminates up to 99% of side-by-side cartons.
  • 3-10% increase in sorter throughput.
  • Eliminates up to 80% of line stoppages caused by jams due to improperly oriented cases - especially following depalletizing.

Horizontal Switching

Horizontal Switching

Switching of products horizontally between lanes is attained easily with a more reliable, quiet, safe and maintenance friendly alternative solution to traditional slat switches and pushers.
Benefits:
Versus Slat Switches:
  • 40-90% reduction in maintenance costs over 15 year life cycle versus slat switches.
  • Precise product justification reduces case jams on downstream conveyors.
  • No safety cages needed.
Versus Pusher Arms:
  • Up to 95% reduction in jams.
  • Up to 95% reduction in downtime.
  • Increase throughput capacity.
